Built from 1888 – 1892 for Alva and William Kissam Vanderbilt. Designed by Richard Morris Hunt in the Beaux Art style. The house contains 50 rooms in all. Only the main 1st floor, a few bedrooms and basement kitchen are open. It is a wonderful place and my favorite of all the Newport Mansions. There were many delights. I enjoyed interacting with the other touring guests, which included a couple of high school girls and their mother, who were entranced by the tour, as well as a young woman, who turned out to be quite knowledgeable about the Gilded Age TV series. We then headed to the beautiful Tea House on the cliff overlooking the ocean. The gift shop at Marble House is my favorite and I loaded up with many books. 596 Belleview Avenue Newport, Rhode Island
