Built in 1864 for China Trade Merchant John Noble Alsop Griswold. Designed by Richard Morris Hunt. An excellent example of American Stick Style Architecture. Now, maintained by the Newport Art Museum. Only a few rooms are open to the public and these house various artistic genres. Contemporary art was the focus while we were there. But, I was there to see the house itself, which was impressive. In particular, the stairway, which was swathed in netting to prepare for a fund raiser that evening. If you are visiting Newport to view the architecture, I recommend this house. 76 Bellevue Avenue Newport, Rhode Island
