Simon Van Duyne House

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Simon Van Duyne House is a survivor in our modern world. The oldest portion was built around 1750. Martin Van Duyne purchased the 200 acre property from Robert Sandford, who acquired the land reportedly from William Penn. Simon inherited the property from his Father Martin. The house is built of sandstone in the Dutch style of that period.

Charlie and I ventured to Pine Brook , New Jersey and stood in line for an estate sale at the Simon Van Duyne House. I was #42 in line, so my expectations, as well as those around me, realized there would be little left of merit to glean from the sale. However, we all cheerfully agreed it would be fascinating to enter the old house and savor the atmosphere.

And savor we did. The Magnusson Group did an excellent job managing the attendees. The items for sale were grouped in useful categories which made it easy to make swift selections. The interior of the house was delightfully primitive and the items for sale reflected the atmosphere. Even though I was #42 in line, I still found a few treasures.
