Still haven’t planned your Thanksgiving weekend? If you'll be in the Philadelphia area, plan a visit to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. PAFA has assembled a small but exquisite 2 room exhibit featuring Hudson River School landscapes, a number of them on loan from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. These works are by American masters including Asher Durand, Thomas Cole, Jasper Cropsey, Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Moran and others.
We spent a spellbinding 2 ½ hours there, carefully studying each piece closely and then from afar, sometimes returning 4 times.
If you have kids who might like fantastic landscapes, you might try bringing them. We saw some parents with school age children. No, it's not a please-touch museum, but with a little self control, this could leave a powerful impression on those young minds.
The PAFA Museum building is beautiful in its own right and certainly worth the visit.
Admission: $10 Adult $6.00 children ages 5-18.
